Tutorial
Introduction :
This tutorial will guide you through diagnosing and troubleshooting Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) device trips when using variable frequency drives (VFDs).
-
1.
Check the motor connection
-
2.
Identify the type of variator
Determine if your drive is a voltage doubler drive (input voltage is 120V and output is 230V). Be aware that this type of drive is more likely to trip the GFCI due to the increased ripple on the DC bus.
-
3.
Check for leakage currents
Be aware of leakage currents that may occur between motor power cable lines during VFD operation, especially when connecting multiple drives to the same input source and when using RFI filters.
