What is a paddle mill used for?

A paddle mill (also called a paddle mixer or paddle blender) is an industrial machine designed to mix, blend, condition or humidify bulk solid materials. It consists of a horizontal trough with a central shaft fitted with overlapping, counter-rotating paddles that gently tumble and fold the material as it moves through the mixing chamber.
Paddle mills are used across a wide range of industries:
- Powder blending – homogeneous mixing of powders, granules or pellets with different particle sizes and densities
- Humidification and conditioning – adding water or liquid binders to dry bulk solids (cement, fly ash, fertilisers)
- Granulation pre-mixing – preparing raw materials before extrusion or compaction
- Thermal treatment – indirect heating or cooling of pasty or granular products
Thanks to their gentle mixing action, paddle mills are particularly suited to fragile or abrasive materials. They are widely used in the chemical, food processing, pharmaceutical, agricultural and building materials industries.
