A demineralizer is a device whose function is to produce demineralized water, that is to say freed from the minerals and salts that are dissolved in it. There are domestic demineralizers and industrial demineralizers. Their function is similar, only the volume of water treated, as the method obtained to obtain demineralized water differ.

There are several demineralizer technologies. Some demineralizers use a resin filtration system, which traps minerals and returns demineralized water. This type of demineralizer requires regular maintenance of the resin filter. Another method is to treat the water by vaporization. The vaporized water is condensed then recovered, the minerals contained in the water before treatment remain in the form of a deposit because the minerals do not vaporize. A last technology, less used, consists in adding to the water a substance which does not eliminate the minerals but makes them inoperative and unsuitable for settling.
