Noise control begins with carrying out acoustic simulation studies to determine noise levels. The results from these simulations make it possible to determine the equipment to be used to control noise pollution.

Few regulations exist on noise control: European regulations on this subject only concern workers in order to protect them against noise-related risks. They are included in the French Labor Code. With regard to individuals, a European directive requires the production of maps in order to analyze and then control noise in urban areas with more than 100,000 inhabitants.
