What is the difference between prechlorination and disinfection?
2 answers
Prechlorination is disinfection by chlorination of raw water, before treatment. This is not recommended for surface waters, due to the risk of the presence of undesirable haloform precursors in these waters. Currently, disinfection is mainly done on the treated water, before injection into the distribution network.
Hello
Pre-chlorination is a process for treating certain reducing compounds at the entry into the potabilisation process. This technique can lead to the formation of undesirable by-products or THMs depending on the quality of the raw water. This technique uses the oxidizing power of chlorine in liquid form and eliminates MO, Fe or even MN.
Disinfection is a tertiary or final treatment process that not only destroys microorganisms but also protects the distribution against localized pollution in the distribution system.
